Listen now | A TikTok trend claims women can use their sex appeal to manipulate straight men into better behavior and free themselves from the disappointments of heterosexuality.
Yes! This was amazing. The EFFORT involved in denying a man your attention hahahahahahahahahaha. How on earth did these women manage to turn boundaries into yet another unnecessary LABOUR???
Also…deelighted with the little mention of the deities tucked in there (my Dad wanted to call me Lilith but was vetoed in favour of… Kali LOL)
I love the layered discussion of this topic. The idea of any strategy that empowers women is initially intriguing, but you raise important questions. What is the source of the power and to what end is it being used? Using power based in sexuality to get men to pay attention just feels exhausting! But it’s also interesting to think about other sources of power that are used by women to sustain long-term heterosexual relationships. Many of these are also problematic.
I also loved the dynamic between the two of you. Can’t wait to hear more!
Yess to this: “it’s also interesting to think about other sources of power that are used by women to sustain long-term heterosexual relationships.” So much there—part of why we’ll never run out of pod topics!

Omg SUCH a good point about turning basic boundary setting into all consuming work!
And consumerism too. A whole dressing table of little things to buy in order to perform disinterest. A whole vivid colour palette of negative space
Yesssss
There was a hilarious book called Irresistible Woman along these lines, reminds me. This is not new , but nothing is. Great piece!
Totally. Constant reinvention/repackaging of verrry old ideas.

Amy hi! I love this as a standby question for us on all “empowerment” culture: “What is the source of the power and to what end is it being used?”
That was great, thanks for sharing!
